Log Cabin Restoration: Proof That "Old" Is the New "New"
This project is a masterclass in why you should never judge a cabin by its "Before" photo. At Lakeview Building Group, we have a soft spot for historical character, so we set out to give this home a soul-deep restoration, using enough reclaimed materials to make the new additions look like they’ve been swapping stories since the 1800s.
A Facelift with History
The original exterior needed more than a coat of paint; it needed a personality transplant. We completely reimagined the home’s profile while keeping its dignity intact.
The "Always Been There" Porch: We added a massive front porch using reclaimed products, perfectly capturing that elusive aged patina. It’s the ideal spot for a rocking chair and a complete lack of a schedule.
Authentic Patina: By sourcing salvaged materials, we ensured the exterior upgrades didn't look like an accidental modern intrusion on a classic site.
Internal Affairs & Rustic Refinement
Inside, we ditched the awkward layouts of yesteryear in favor of a flow that actually makes sense for modern living, without losing the woodsy, log-cabin vibe.
The Kitchen Migration: We moved the kitchen to the left-hand wall for better utility. Above it, we redid the loft with custom metal patina work, because nothing says "sophisticated cabin" quite like aged metal.
Woodsy Wellness: Every bedroom and bathroom was gutted and rebuilt to feel intentionally old-fashioned. It’s all the charm of a 19th-century lodge, just with plumbing you can actually rely on.
The Ultimate Great Outdoors
Why stay inside when the backyard looks like this? We built a transition space that practically begs for a weekend getaway.
The "New-Old" Screen Porch: We used reclaimed wood (and some new wood we successfully convinced was old) to build a screened porch that blocks the bugs but keeps the views.
Fire & Water: We rounded out the retreat with a custom fire pit and a dedicated hot tub area. It’s rugged, it’s rustic, and it’s a lot more comfortable than sleeping in a tent.
Don’t Build a Replica. Build a Legacy
If your current home feels more "dated" than "timeless," let’s talk. At Lakeview Building Group, we specialize in restorations that respect the past while embracing the comforts of the present. Let's get started on your project.
