When Kurt Van Gelder moved to Mooresville after retiring from his first successful home-building business in Holland, MI, he saw a need for his MidWest values and craftsmanship in his new hometown. His experience with building homes in the harsh environment on the shores of Lake Michigan has made him the perfect man for the job. So, he decided to partner with another (younger) local builder to serve his new community.
With over 28 years in the business, Lakeview Building Group is dedicated to providing high-quality craftsmanship and dedicated customer service.
Kurt Van Gelder - Owner
Kurt grew up in West Michigan and moved with his wife, Becki, and two children to the Mooresville area in 2020. He has been running his own building company since 1991, after gaining years of experience working for other builders.
Designing and building everything from multi-million dollar custom homes to complicated remodels, Kurt has built up decades of experience and firmly believes in adhering to the better building practices prescribed by the journal of light construction.
In 1991, Kurt earned his pilot’s license and takes the discipline and perfection he cultivated in aviation, and applies it to his construction work. Flying passengers in small aircraft also made him “overly communicative” during building projects to make sure people feel comfortable and at ease, and he always takes a hands-on approach with clients.
Kurt has always been actively involved in his community and quickly established himself in his new hometown, becoming a chairman for the Mooresville Affordable Housing Alliance as well as sponsoring and staying actively involved with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Charlotte and Hope on the Lake. He also volunteers as a baseball coach for his kids’ teams and is very engaged with their education.
David Wallace - Owner
David was born and raised in Wellington, New Zealand, and started building homes as part of a 4-year apprenticeship at the age of 17. When he was 23, he began traveling the world where he eventually met his wife, Jen, who is from Portland, Oregon.
He followed Jen to her hometown in 2014 and worked for a general contractor in the area, then moved up to a project management position with a custom home builder. Two years later, he launched his own general contracting company called Kiwi Built LLC.
In 2021, David and Jen decided to move to North Carolina to be near Lake Norman, and shortly thereafter, met Kurt and Becki and formed the partnership that became Lakeview Building Group.
David loves interacting with homeowners and helping bring their visions to life. He tries to bring a little of his New Zeeland style and process into his work and enjoys learning and perfecting his home-building craft.
A family man with two boys, David spends his time in the outdoors between water skiing and wakeboarding at the lake and going to his kid’s high school cross country meets, and baseball games.
